How to convert H.265 for Premiere Pro? In this post, we will present a workaround to make NX1/NX500 H.265 footage well compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro.

“Does anyone have a recommendation of the best program to convert footage from a samsung NX1 camera (H.265/HEVC)? Seems you can't import the footage natively and wanted to see what other people were using to convert and bring the footage into premiere pro? I want to be able to edit it on the Adobe premiere pro.”

H.265 has a higher quality and smaller size compared with the H.264, it has been a high-performance video camera. While as a new guy in this video place, H.265/HEVC has not yet been accepted by most devices, players, editing software, tv and more.

Since H.265 footage like from Samsung NX1/NX500 can’t be recognized by Adobe Premiere, a suggestion is to encode H.265(HEVC) files to MPEG-2 for Premiere Pro. Step 1: Import H.265 video from NX1/NX500 into Mac. Download and install the corresponding version and open it. Click “Add video” to load H.265 files to the program. In case the files are already on the computer, you can drag and drop them in the main interface, or press the media file browser and select the files from the computer folders. If you want to merge several video clips into a long video clip, just check Merge into one file.

Step 2: Open the list of supported formats by clicking the convert to section. Locate the collection of Adobe Premiere presets and select the one that will work best for your target devices.
Note: If you just want to import certain segments of the H.265 clips for editing, you can trim the clip before conversion.

Step 3: You can check “Settings” to adjust Bitrates (kbps) and Size (pix). Choosing a little lower Bitrates and Size will help you to get a smaller target file, but it also leads to a lower video quality in saved file. Don't forget the balance between video quality and size.

Step 4: Click the “Convert” button to start compressing H.265 to MPEG-2 for Adobe Premiere Pro. After the conversion, click the ‘Open’ button to locate the output files and import the output files to Adobe Premiere Pro to create your own masterpiece.

This smart H.265 to MPEG-2 Video Converter for Mac can automatically switch off the computer when the conversion is done, so you don't need to wait around during the conversion. It does the video conversion like a charm and the output files will maximally preserve the quality of your original H.265 clips.
